Overview

The Ferrari 296GTB is a high-performance sports vehicle that ushers in a new era for the Italian carmaker, centered on a V-6 engine and hybrid technology. Both characteristics are uncommon in Ferrari's lengthy history of road vehicles, yet they have both been used in racing campaigns. A mid-mounted turbocharged V-6 and an electric motor sandwiched between the engine and the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox provide a combined 819 horsepower in the GTB, which stands for Gran Truism Berlin Etta. All of that power is sent entirely to the rear wheels, which, along with the 296GTB's small size and light weight, should make for a really exciting vehicle. Its stunning bodywork and stylish cabin design make it a true show-stopper.

What's New for the Year 2022?

The 2022 Ferrari 296GTB is a brand-new plug-in hybrid vehicle, joining the plug-in SF90 Straddle and Spider in Ferrari's lineup. As the automotive world continues to embrace electrification, expect the GTB to kick off a trend of Ferrari vehicles with lower displacement engines and hybrid integration.

Ferrari hasn't said how much the 296GTB will cost, but we're guessing it'll start around a quarter-million dollars. We can propose which one to buy once we know how much the coupe costs and what features are standard and optional.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

The 296GTB's turbocharged V-6 engine is paired with a plug-in hybrid system behind the cockpit. The combined output of the gas engine and electric motor is 819 horsepower, which is transmitted solely to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The GTB can also be driven entirely on electricity, thanks to a 7.5-kWh battery pack hidden beneath the floor. The six-cylinder engine is said to sound like a "small V-12," although that has yet to be heard.

The redline of 8500 rpm, on the other hand, guarantees a tactile driving experience. The GTB is equipped with an active rear spoiler inspired by the LA Ferrari and intended to increase downforce. Ferrari claims the car's fun-to-drive factor will be high due to its small size and short wheelbase. The 296GTB includes electrically assisted power steering and a brake-by-wire system, as well as four driving modes–drive, Hybrid, Performance, and Qualify–that give escalating performance characteristics. A pair of carbon fiber rims is available if you desire lighter wheels than the basic twin-spoke forged units.

Real-World MPG and Fuel Economy

The EPA and Ferrari have not revealed the 296GTB's fuel efficiency. On the other hand, Ferrari boasts that it will have an all-electric range of about 15 miles on a single charge. We'll have a better sense of how frugal the super-powerful plug-in hybrid is once the EPA-rated city, highway, and combined statistics are revealed.

Cargo, Interior, and Comfort

The 296GTB's interior is a study in beautiful simplicity. The dashboard has a completely digital interface that is based on the SF90. A digital display is also provided for the passenger, which Ferrari claims is designed to make them feel like a co-driver.

The GTB's seats and other interior surfaces are upholstered in Italian leather, emphasizing the coupe's opulence. A push-button shifter in the center console is inspired by the classic Ferrari gated manual gearboxes. On the center console, there's also a little box for storing the GTB's ignition key. A head-up display is also integrated into the top of the dash in an unobtrusive manner.

Coverage for Warranty and Maintenance

Although Ferrari's powertrain warranty is less than that of many major automakers, it is comparable to that of Lamborghini and McLaren. Unlike those two competitors, Ferrari, on the other hand, offers a tremendous amount of free maintenance.

Three years and unlimited miles are covered by the limited warranty.
Three years and unlimited miles are included in the powertrain warranty.
Maintenance is free for seven years and unlimited kilometers.
